Canal Place was once the hub of the Little Falls manufacturing
district at the turn of the 20th Century. Now anchored by two
massive stone buildings and a beautiful park it features shops
selling antiques and products made by local crafters,
restaurants, B and B's and the Mohawk Valley Center for the
Arts. Canal Place received the Erie Canalway Heritage Award of
Excellence in 2008 and it is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places. Visitors can walk or bike from Canal Place to
many highlights, including Lock 17, the highest lift lock on the
Erie Canal; Moss Island popular for rock climbing and exploring
geological formations as old as the Ice Age, and the Erie
Canalway Trail linking Albany and Buffalo.
Within an hour's drive from the Adirondacks, Cooperstown, Utica,
Albany and Syracuse, Canal Place can be the launching point for
museum visits, biking, hiking and superb dining in a pedestrian
friendly community.
